Washing your Hats

How to Wash Your Baseball Hat Without Ruining It

Let’s be real—your baseball hat has been through a lot. Sweat, sun, maybe even a few coffee spills. But before you think about tossing it in the washing machine (or worse, the dishwasher), let’s talk about the right way to clean your favorite cap without destroying its shape, color, or general good vibes.

Step 1: Know Your Hat

Not all hats are created equal! Verify the material of your hat. All available Never Normal hats are currently washable. If it’s made of wool, be extra careful (wool shrinks like your favorite t-shirt in high school). Never Normal currently does not have any wool material in any hats. If it’s structured with a cardboard brim, avoid soaking it. Newer hats, like Never Normal with plastic brims are more forgiving.

Step 2: Prep the Hat

Brush off any dust or dirt with a soft brush or lint roller. If you’re dealing with sweat stains, a quick scrub with a toothbrush and mild detergent can work wonders.

Step 3: The Soak (Not Too Long!)

Fill a clean sink or bucket with lukewarm water and mix in a small amount of gentle detergent (dish soap works too). Let your hat soak for 15-30 minutes—just enough to loosen dirt but not long enough to warp the shape.

Step 4: Scrub-a-Dub (Gently!)

Use a soft brush or cloth to gently scrub any problem areas, paying extra attention to sweat stains on the inside band. Avoid scrubbing too hard—you’re washing your hat, not sanding furniture.

Step 5: Rinse and Shape

Rinse the hat under cool water until all the soap is gone. Don’t wring it out! Instead, gently press out excess water with a towel. To keep its shape, place it on a rounded surface, like an upside-down bowl or a balled-up towel, while it dries.

Step 6: Air Dry Like a Pro

Let your hat air dry in a well-ventilated area. Avoid direct sunlight (unless you want that sun-faded, vintage look). If you’re in a hurry, use a fan—but never a dryer unless you want a hat fit for a toddler.

Bonus Hack: Hat Stays Fresh Longer

Spritzing your hat with a fabric refresher or a little baking soda between washes can keep it smelling clean without the full soak treatment.

There you have it—your go-to guide for keeping your baseball hat fresh, clean, and Never Normal. Keep rocking your style, and don’t be afraid to get your hat dirty—now you know how to clean it like a pro!
